Savoring Summer

I'm a real good helper. I help my Dad study and my Mom run.

Although my real passion is swimming and maybe swinging.
I so could have made the 1924 Olympic team. Wait! Did women even get to swim in the 1924 Olympics? Apparently until 1972 women were only allowed to run 2 laps around the track. Looking at it from that point of view we have come a long way Baby!

Dear Annika,
The 1924 Olympics were in Paris, France. That would be a fabulous place to compete, and yes, there were women swimmers. They swam the 100 m free, the 400 m free, the 100 m backstroke, the 200 m breaststroke, and the 4 x 100 m free relay. The US gals went 1-2-3 in the 100 free as well as the 400 free. They captured gold and bronze in the 100 back and 2nd in the breaststroke. They won the 4 x 100 free relay was well. Some of the competitors were Ethel, Gertrude, Sybil and Phyllis.

Love,
Grandma Cindy
