Christmas 2017 and Early Winter 2018

The gap between Fall and full on winter requires creativity. In Arizona one may be familiar with the statement "but it's a dry heat". In the Superior land region dreaded is the phrase "Cold with no snow to insulate". No ....just no!
Open gym it is. Fitness is a family affair.
Fat biking is fun but it can be slippery.
But it can be slippery. I don't know what Isaac's problem is he's running tubeless :)

Getting the Christmas tree in Dad's new truck. We balanced out our emissions from the gas guzzling pick up by chopping down a tree that needed to be thinned. Yes... where we live forests actually need to be thinned and sometimes the city orders you to run your water. I'm shocked to report the Christmas tree did not fall on anybody. It is a right of passage that the Christmas tree falls on somebody. If not you may as well have bought it at Costco.

Christmas Eve and we are all spiffed up. Isaac has no idea what fun is in store.
Grandpa and Grandma are in for an early morning.

It is unclear who Santa brought the rings for. I still insist it was me.
Others do not agree.
Soon after Christmas  we headed to Kansas city for a family wedding.
Kansas was a delightful surprise. Seeing family was a treasure!
Issac didn't even spill anything...at least not on his suit. His suit is quite a step up from his first polyester one. The one with the clip on tie. We can thank cousin Scott for the linen.
Annika was the flower girl. She was 100% committed to the job and picked up every pedal post ceremony.
Isaac slept during the service ...saving himself for the reception.
We clean up alright :)

When we returned home we finally got some good snow.
Back yard adventures can be the best ones.
Winter forts are awesome.
And even better with friends (even if we had to leave the back yard)
The first nordic race sneaks comes quickly even if the snow does not.
Annika rocked the start and most of the race...The finish...well loosing with grace...it's a skill that takes practice.
Isaac bandited the race. I still feel guilty I didn't sign him up even though his entry would have been free. I just didn't think a 2 year old would actually ski more than 100 meters after getting dropped off the main pack. ..Then again this is Isaac. Next time he gets a bib. He earned it.
Annika rocks gold lame` and the ice rink.
Isaac is ready for hockey sans skates
Snow shoes he has dialed
Annika prefers getting off the beaten path.
We got a babysitter and celebrated Valentine Big Bay style. It's not too far away. The trails are all classic tracks only and a bit rugged. They remind of nordic skiing as a kid. We did not have skate lanes.
It was pretty adventurous and fun.
Lake Superior froze in a way it never had before...or so we are told.
It was completely smooth at one of the local beaches and 3/4 of the town was there dancing on ice.
It was magical.
